LAS VEGAS Cinco de Mayo
For the month of May, Las Vegas is brimming with excitement over the coming warm weather, so much so that it almost seems unfair to the other months that there are two party-centric holidays in the calendar month. Kicking off May with a margarita in tow is the often misunderstood Cinco de Mayo. Though the history behind the 5th of May is a little fuzzy at times, it seems its true purpose in the United States is to give party-goers something else to drink over. With nightclubs and strip clubs sure to host their own events, Cinco de Mayo in Las Vegas is inevitably going to be a wild weekend.
In terms of Sin City's club scene, any person looking to celebrate Cinco de Mayo has a long list of events and parties to choose from. The Cinco de Drinko weekend starts the month off right with an after-party for the Mayweather v. Cotto fight at the MGM Grand. This nighttime blast will be hosted by Diddy and will take place at the Palms Casino Resort. For some truly late night Cinco de Mayo entertainment, party seekers can head off the Strip to the Artisan, where resident DJs Elektrik Haze and Svast & Stellar will kick off an after-hours party starting at the witching hour of 3 a.m. and ending after five hours of non-stop entertainment.
It doesn't necessarily take a night in a nightclub to to fully enjoy everything Cinco de Mayo. All throughout the city, establishments that serve mixed beverages are sure to be dishing out discounted margaritas. Rhumbar at the Mirage, El Cortez, El Segundo at the Fashion Show Mall, and even the Ri Ra Irish Pub at Mandalay Bay are all playing host to drink specials to honor the heritage and pride of the country's southern neighbor. On Normal Rockwell Lane, the weekend celebration will be honored by the 3rd annual Cinco De Mayo Street Festival and Carnival, where live musical performances and DJs provide the perfect backdrop for this street-side celebration. Even the local Clark County library is jumping on the celebration bandwagon by featuring a Cinco de Mayo Mariachi Concert.
Cinco de Mayo at Mexican Bar
For the best of what Cinco de Mayo has to offer, be sure to plan a dinner at one of the cities top Mexican restaurants. Within the Station Casino properties, every Mexican themed restaurant will reduce the price of a hefty portion of their food and drink menu while Tacos & Tequila at the Luxor will be treated to the musical talents and tastes of DJ Larry Lynx.
It's inevitable that no matter where you go in Vegas, you'll be greeted by a healthy celebration of pride in Mexican heritage. While the holiday is not a celebration of Mexican Independence Day, it does immortalize the soldiers lost in the war against he French at the Battle of Puebla. Show your respect and admiration for the people of your sister country by raising a discounted glass of some icy cold alcoholic beverage.
